Vermont's Act 166 of 2020 placed a moratorium on law enforcement use of facial recognition until the legislature authorizes it. Maine (25 M.R.S. § 6001, enacted 2021) restricts government and police use of facial surveillance with narrow exceptions. Massachusetts (Acts of 2020, ch. 253) does not ban it but limits police facial recognition searches to written requests through the RMV, State Police or FBI.
